About Ian Lawrence
Ian Lawrence is a Toronto-based photographer with over 15 years of experience. In Montreal, he studied photography, film, media, and communications at Concordia University, where he then taught photography and film. Ian’s work has been featured in the Contact Photo Festival in Toronto, and he was also selected as an emerging artist by the Ontario Arts Council. Ian has traveled to over 25 countries and has always been drawn to the candid, beautiful, and unscripted moments in life.
Having a passion for education, he has continued to teach photography as well as work on education based projects. Ian has worked with various organizations such as Sketch, Fife House, Photographers Without Borders, the Toronto District School Board, and most notably, the Art Gallery of Ontario (AGO). In 2017, his students won the Toronto Cultural Hotspot Youth Photography Awards. Ian has worked with the Cree School Board in Quebec documenting modern indigenous education. He has also documented women’s empowerment projects in Canada and abroad in South East Asia.
Ian’s personality and unique ability to capture beautiful, candid moments have led him to work with a diversity of organizations, events, weddings, and families. He loves working with people from all walks of life, and is experienced in all forms of photography.
